Your front door is one of the most important components of the curb appeal of your home. It also plays an important role in your homeownership, as your entrance to your home is the first thing you see when you get home from a hard day. Many people underestimate what a huge difference the color and style of their front door can make in the beauty of their home. Do you want to make a change in your home’s curb appeal, but want to do so on a budget? Consider starting with finding a new style for your front door, whether it be just a repaint or choosing a new door altogether!
Many homeowners choose steel or fiberglass front doors these days because of needing upkeep and also for the door’s longevity. A natural wood door can be a nice choice, as it gives a rustic feel to a home, but it takes much more maintenance and why Shed Windows and More opted for selling both fiberglass and steel front entry doors to beautify the entrance to your home.
We have many choices when it comes to fiberglass and steel entry doors or front doors for your home. We have plain doors, raised panel doors in 1 panel, 2 panel, 3 panel, 4 panel and 6 panel configurations. Door colors are white, textured and non-texture finishes, and sizes range from 30” wide to 36” wide and heights from 72” to 79” to fit your entry door requirements. All our fiberglass and steel entry doors can be painted to match your home design.
We have plain glass inserts that are 9 lite or 11 lite arch top inserts to compliment your front entry door for your home. Shed Windows and More stocks a full array of decorative glass window inserts also for your front door. If you want different glass configurations or textured glass inserts we have those also.
If you are looking to get a fresh coat of paint on your front door, read on! There are so many color options for your front door as well as styles.
One solid color is a classic choice for your front door. Be sure to pick a color that fits well with the other colors on the exterior of your house. If you want, you can be subtle and choose a color that is already used in your exterior house paint, or choose a slightly lighter or darker shade of an already existing paint color. This will result in an overall monochromatic appearance, which can be beautiful if there is enough contrast in the shade of each color.
Personally, we love front doors that really stand out against the rest of the house. You can do this without painting your door neon green, too! Some popular, bold colors for front doors are a deep burgundy, a royal blue, forest green, teal blue or red. As long as your already existing exterior paint colors are relatively neutral, i.e. grey/white, cream/ivory, these colors will look great. Having a bold color for your front door gives you a chance to really personalize your home. You may not be able to paint your entire house teal blue if that is your favorite color, but there is no reason why you can’t have your front door be that color. Having a bold front door will also help your home stand out against neighboring homes that might have similar architectural styles and paint schemes, and will serve as a good reference for first time guests visiting your home.
Nontraditional colors can also work really well; so don’t be afraid to try that neon green! As long as you pick a color that fits within the already existing palette of your exterior paint, you can’t go too far wrong. Bright yellows and greens can look really lovely, but they look best as a pastel shade rather than fully saturated color. As a general rule, light shades of lighter, brighter colors work best, and dark shades of deep colors, such as red, blue, and green work similarly well.
To tie in your chosen door color, try painting something else on the front of your house with that same color. Maybe you have a wooden table or lawn chair you can repaint, or some kind of wall decoration or a fence. If your house has ranch style shutters, or you are considering adding them onto your house, consider painting them to match your front door. Doing this will make your front door color mesh well with the exterior of your house, even if you chose a bright nontraditional color.
Do you have a unique gem of a door with interesting designs carved into the wood? If so, painting it all one color will make those details less visible. Consider using a two tone paint scheme, perhaps a lighter and darker shade of the same color, to bring out the dimensionality of your door. If your door is very intricate and maybe not to your taste, painting it one flat color, especially with a matte finish, will mute those details and make them more subtle.
Even if your door is completely flat, you can use more than one paint color. You might pick up a beautiful stencil that matches the exterior design of your home well, and use it to paint onto your door. If you want to use two colors for your door, the same general rules apply to picking just one color for your door. Make sure that the colors you pick complement each other well, and also fit with the already existing colors in your exterior paint. If you want your designs to be subtle, choose a slightly lighter or darker shade of the color you chose to paint the majority of your door with. Instead of just using a stencil, you can also consider creating designs with masking tape for your front door. Painting designs on your front door can be a little risky, but if you choose your designs and colors well to match the rest of your house, the end result can be quite gorgeous.
